Age of Ultron?has been and gone, you’ve seen?Ant-Man, and let’s face it, Marvel’s Phase 2?was awesome, but what’s next??In this series we’re going to take a look at what we currently know about each of the films in Marvel’s Phase 3, discussing what we know from the comics, the already existing films, and of course a bit of speculation. So let’s get right into it, discussing everything we know about Marvel and Sony’s new?Spider-Man.

Overview

Yet another reboot, this will be the first solo film to feature Spider-Man within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yes, Andrew Garfield is out, and Tom Holland is in, although this won’t?be another origin story. It’s already known that Spider-Man already exists in the MCU (it’s been said by series producer Kevin Feige, and hinted at in Ant Man), so we won’t be forced to sit through another uncle Ben death, and another reworking of the words ‘with great power comes great responsibility’.?This also won’t be the first time we see the new?Spider-Man, as he will almost certainly be appearing in?Captain America: Civil War.

In the comics

Everybody and their grandmother knows Spider-Man’s origin story, so I won’t cover it here. It’s hard to say just where in the comics this film will draw from. The character will be the original Spider-Man Peter Parker, and he will be in high school, but other than that we don’t know which story lines this film will draw from.

Who’s in it?

As I’ve already mentioned, Tom Holland will be playing the title role, and Marisa Tomei is tentatively attached to play Aunt May. They’re the only two actors that have been cast or rumoured, but expect to see a couple of other Avengers here, as well as Spidey regulars Uncle Ben, J. Jonah Jameson and either Gwen Stacey or Mary Jane Watson.

What to expect

There will no doubt be plenty of web-slinging action on display, but this film might struggle to separate itself from the previous incarnations of the character. One thing they might try to do is stuff as many other heroes?into the film to make it stand out. I also hope a new villain will be on display, but I get the feeling Norman Osborn’s Green Goblin will be the big bad, as they may be keen to introduce him into the MCU.

Another thing worth mentioning is that we currently don’t know the title, but I would expect it to be either?Spectacular Spider-Man,?or if they really want to give the middle finger to the old films,?Superior Spider-Man.?
