Now, I know what you’re thinking – Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man, but here at Third Act Film we love casting speculation. We also recently published an article discussing why Iron Man needs to die in?Captain America: Civil War.?So with all of that in mind, here are a few suggestions of who we think should play Iron Man, once Robert Downey Jr. is done with the role.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan
We’ve spoken about Jeffrey Dean Morgan in this role before, and it’s easy to see why. Handsome, charming, and believable as both a hero and an alcoholic, Morgan ticks all the boxes. The only thing working against him is the fact that he’s in?Batman v Superman,?so if they have plans for him there the two roles might clash.

Joel McHale
Fans of Community will know not just how funny McHale can be, but that he’s capable of going to some more serious places too. He’s definitely in shape enough for the obligatory shirtless scene, and isn’t a superstar so would line up nicely with Marvel / Disney’s track record of hiring actors.

Jon Hamm
Jon Hamm looks more like a grizzled superhero than almost any other human alive. It seems like only a matter of time before he gets a role in a comic book film, and now?Mad Men?is finished his schedule is clearer than ever.

Adam Scott
I don’t think anybody would argue Adam Scott’s ability to deliver the comedic aspects of the role, but he’s not well-known for doing action. That being said, Iron Man spends most of his time in a suit, so it’s not a huge issue.

Leonardo DiCaprio
This would be a dream come true for many fanboys. Leo joining the Marvel universe seems like a recipe for success, and what better role for him to take on than the biggest gun in the MCU? This would also be a good way for Marvel to ease the no doubt rocky transition away from Robert Downey Jr.

Matt Bomer
This would almost certainly be James Forbes’ top pick. Matt Bomer is a little bit boyish to play Tony Stark, however he is more than capable of playing both the?genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist, and the arrogant but ultimately good hero.
Who do you think should play Iron Man when Robert Downey Jr. is done with the role? Or do you think they should retire the character all together? Share any thoughts in the comments.
